Report of activities in 2014-2015 by Michel Waldschmidt (March 2015)
Between the meeting in Berlin in April 2014 and the meeting in Oslo in April 2015, my main activities related with EMS- CDC have been the following ones. I had a number of visits in developing countries see my web site; some of them gave rise to a report.
- From 7 to 19 July 2014, I participated in the CIMPA-ICTP-BENIN Research School Algebraic Number Theory and Applications, The Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (IMSP), Dangbo (Benin). On July 21 I participated in a conference in Université de Lomé, Togo and on July 24 to a Journée Arithmétique at Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Cocody, Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
- On August 12, 2014, I participated in the symposium "Mathematics in Emerging Nations: Achievements and
Opportunities" (MENAO). There, I distributed a EMSCDC leaflet a EMSCDC poster and I gave a beamer presentation on EMSCDC. In Seoul there was a joint
meeting with EMS Committee for European Solidarity: see my report.
In my short report on ICM 2014 (EMS Newsletter December 2014) I write
During international conferences, many publishers have a booth where they advertise and sell their recent books. ICM2014 was no exception. Among the exhibitors were many academic and publishing houses. At the end of the conference, most of them donated some of their remaining unsold books to our committee. Some During international conferences, many publishers representatives from African institutes packed these 164 books (with a total weight of 126 kg) and shipped them to their countries.
In March 2015, 121 books reached the The Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (IMSP), Dangbo (Benin) from the following publishers:Springer Birkhauser AK Petres CRC Press Oxford Science Elsevier EMS LMS Academic Press 41 18 2 3 2 8 40 1 6 </tr></table> The remaining 43 books have been sent to Senegal. The cost of the transportation from Seoul to France is supported by EMS-CDC, the cost of transportation from France to Africa is supported by the institutions which receive them. - From November 3 16, 2014, I participated in the CIMPA- NEPAL research school Aspects of Dynamical Systems in Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Kathmandu (Nepal)
- From November 25 to December 3, 2014, I visited India: first the Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay), next the School of Mathematics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai and then The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai.
- From December 812, 2014, I participated in the ICPAM- GOROKA 2014; International Conference on Pure and Applied Mathematics, "Contemporary Developments in the Mathematical Sciences as Tools for Scientific and Technological Transformation of Papua New Guinea" in Goroka (Papua New Guinea).
- From December 14 to 17, 2014, I gave a course during the Winter School on modular functions in one and several variables, Goa University (India)
- On December 18, 2014, I visited the Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research IISER, Pune, India.
- From January 5 to 15, 2015, I gave a course at the Université des Sciences et de la Technologie Houari- Boumediène (USTHB), Faculté des Mathématiques, Alger. This visit is under the Programme Tassili, Partenariat Hubert Curien (PHC). </ul> </body> </html>
